The International Language of Robotics on show | Hastings Secondary College

04 Sep 2017
Robots was the hot topic at Lake Cathie PS; whether the Lego League or FIRST robotics sharing and collaboration are key to both teams success.

FIRST principle “Gracious professionalism” is a recognised strength at both Lake Cathie PS and Hastings Secondary College, with both teams being acknowledged in their respective competitions for their excellence in this area. With Gracious Professionalism, fierce competition and mutual gain are not separate notions. Gracious professionals learn and compete like crazy, but treat one another with respect and kindness in the process.

Year 7 students shared their experiences and the highlights from the Robotics Team and the competitions. They have learnt so much from being involved with Robotics and Hastings Team 6508. Whilst much of the experience is around the STEM subjects, the video “It’s not a robot” emphasises the team building, problem-solving and collaboration skills alongside building international relations and our future leaders, innovators and citizens of the globe.

A highlight was visiting Mrs McCleary’s class and discussing the Lego League robotics competition, the practice pitch and experiences, culminating in Lake Cathie PS hosting a regional competition on the 2nd November this year.

Thank you Lake Cathie PS for inviting us to visit.
