Principal Message Westport Campus Term 2 Week 2 | Hastings Secondary College

11 May 2018

I hope that our school community enjoyed the recent break. It is always a good opportunity for students and staff to reenergise for another school term of quality learning and skill development.

Our students represented us in a number of community events recently. Nathan Barnett delivered the address at the ANZAC Day Dawn Service. Fantastic effort in very trying conditions (torrential rain). The ANZAC march was also supported by both staff and students from this campus, as part of the Hastings Valley Community of Schools. Last Sunday 170 of our students volunteered to support the annual Port Macquarie Iron Man. A big thank you to Mr Johnson, Mr Parkin and the other staff and parents who supported this event as volunteers. Our commitment to this community event is to man a water station at Town Beach for a duration that is in excess of 16 hours. The staff organises cover on four-hour rotations. Well done to all concerned.

Year 12 Mid-course reports are currently being completed and will be available to students and parents in Week 5. The reports will be available both in hard copy and also as an electronic copy through the Parent Portal.

Our Robotics Team had a very successful trip to Houston, Texas USA where they competed and made the semi-finals of that world-class competition. Super Stuff.

We are in the process of organising our course information sessions for Year 10 students transitioning to Year 11 at the beginning of 2019. Our focus is to give those students quality advice and support around selecting Year 11 courses that will support them to get them to where they need to get to when they leave school. The conversation around course choice is ongoing and a vital component in supporting students in the pursuit of their aspirations.
